Platinum Catalysts Market Size in Eastern Europe

The East European platinum catalysts market was finally on the rise to reach $X in 2022, after two years of decline. Overall, consumption recorded significant growth. As a result, consumption attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Platinum Catalysts Production in Eastern Europe

In value terms, platinum catalysts production rose to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total production indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production decreased by -3.5% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the production volume increased by 44%. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in Eastern Europe

In 2022, overseas shipments of platinum catalysts decreased by -40.4% to X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a four-year rising trend. In general, exports, however, enjoyed a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 122% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, platinum catalysts exports declined slightly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 197%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Russia (X tons) was the major exporter of platinum catalysts, mixing up 59% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Bulgaria (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons), together making up a 36% share of total exports. The following exporters - Estonia (X tons) and Poland (X tons) - together made up 4.8% of total exports.

Exports from Russia increased at an average annual rate of +12.0% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Estonia (+20.7%), Bulgaria (+12.4%) and the Czech Republic (+8.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Estonia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +20.7% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Poland (-4.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Russia, Bulgaria and Estonia increased by +7.4, +3.2 and +2.6 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest platinum catalysts supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 51% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Czech Republic ($X), with a 5.4% share of total exports. It was followed by Poland, with a 3.6% share.

In Russia, platinum catalysts exports expanded at an average annual rate of +23.1% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the Czech Republic (+13.8% per year) and Poland (+13.2% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 60% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a strong increase. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while Bulgaria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+18.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Eastern Europe

In 2022, the amount of platinum catalysts imported in Eastern Europe reduced slightly to X tons, declining by -1.7% compared with the year before. Overall, imports, however, saw significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 753%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then shrank modestly in the following year.

In value terms, platinum catalysts imports reduced notably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a pronounced increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 44%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2021, and then shrank sharply in the following year.

Imports by Country

Slovakia prevails in imports structure, recording X tons, which was near 88% of total imports in 2022. Bulgaria (X tons), Belarus (X tons) and Lithuania (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Slovakia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the platinum catalysts imports, with a CAGR of +180.4% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Lithuania (+35.7%) and Bulgaria (+33.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Belarus (-2.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Slovakia (+88 p.p.) and Lithuania (+3.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Belarus saw its share reduced by -69.2% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Belarus ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported platinum catalysts in Eastern Europe, comprising 9% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Lithuania ($X), with a 1.3% share of total imports. It was followed by Bulgaria, with a 1.1% share.

In Belarus, platinum catalysts imports increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Lithuania (+51.0% per year) and Bulgaria (+0.9% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per kg in 2022, with a decrease of -36.1% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a sharp decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 284% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per kg in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per kg), while Slovakia ($X per kg) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Lithuania (+11.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
