In value terms, polycarbonate exports shrank to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 70% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then shrank in the following year.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Hungary (X tons), distantly followed by Poland (X tons), Russia (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Slovakia (X tons) and Lithuania (X tons) were the main exporters of polycarbonates (in primary forms), together mixing up 93% of total exports. Estonia (X tons) took a little share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Slovakia (with a CAGR of +31.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Hungary ($X), Poland ($X) and Russia ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together accounting for 68% of total exports. These countries were followed by the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Lithuania and Estonia, which together accounted for a further 29%.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Lithuania, with a CAGR of +31.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, approximately equating the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.1%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the export price increased by 44%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+2.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Polycarbonate imports reduced to X tons in 2022, dropping by -9% compared with the previous year's figure. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 13%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, polycarbonate imports fell to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +46.1% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 51% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then declined in the following year.

Poland (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Hungary (X tons) and Slovakia (X tons) represented roughly 72% of total imports in 2022. Russia (X tons) took a 7.6% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Romania (6%). Belarus (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

In terms of the main importing countries, Belarus, with a CAGR of +15.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 6% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the import price increased by 34% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Romania ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
