Total exports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +52.3% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 75% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, polymethyl methacrylate exports declined to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded a temperate increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 124% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Poland represented the largest exporter of polymethyl methacrylate in primary forms in Eastern Europe, with the volume of exports recording X tons, which was near 50% of total exports in 2022. The Czech Republic (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 17% share, followed by Slovakia (13%). Hungary (X tons), Russia (X tons), Bulgaria (X tons), Romania (X tons) and Estonia (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.

Exports from Poland increased at an average annual rate of +10.7% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Estonia (+23.5%), Slovakia (+16.7%), Romania (+7.0%) and the Czech Republic (+6.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Estonia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +23.5% from 2012-2022. Russia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Hungary (-4.5%) and Bulgaria (-10.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Poland, Slovakia and Estonia increased by +18, +8 and +1.7 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest polymethyl methacrylate supplying countries in Eastern Europe were Poland ($X), Romania ($X) and Slovakia ($X), with a combined 56% share of total exports. The Czech Republic, Hungary, Russia, Bulgaria and Estonia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 35%.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Estonia, with a CAGR of +40.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 3.6% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a noticeable descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the export price increased by 28%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Romania ($X per ton), while Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Romania (+25.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, overseas purchases of polymethyl methacrylate in primary forms increased by 2.5% to X tons, rising for the fourth consecutive year after two years of decline. Total imports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +28.0% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 38% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

In value terms, polymethyl methacrylate imports totaled $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

Poland (X tons) and Russia (X tons) represented roughly 51% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Bulgaria (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons) and Slovakia (X tons), together constituting a 39% share of total imports. Among the main importing countries, Latvia, with a CAGR of +27.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 4.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a mild reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the import price increased by 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Romania ($X per ton), while Bulgaria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Romania (+3.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
