Potato Chips Market Size in Eastern Europe
After three years of decline, the East European potato chips market increased by 4.6% to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, consumption, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Potato Chips Production in Eastern Europe
In value terms, potato chips production rose rapidly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 21%. Over the period under review, production reached the maximum level in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.

Exports in Eastern Europe
After six years of growth, overseas shipments of potato chips decreased by -3.4% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a buoyant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 23%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2021, and then fell slightly in the following year.
In value terms, potato chips exports rose modestly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, enjoyed a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 25%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
Poland (X tons) and Russia (X tons) dominates exports structure, together constituting 71% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Romania (X tons), Belarus (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons), together making up a 22% share of total exports. Lithuania (X tons) held a little share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Belarus (with a CAGR of +32.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest potato chips supplying countries in Eastern Europe were Poland ($X), Russia ($X) and Belarus ($X), together accounting for 74% of total exports.
Belarus, with a CAGR of +51.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 7% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the export price increased by 9.2%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Lithuania ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belarus (+14.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Eastern Europe
In 2022, after three years of decline, there was significant growth in supplies from abroad of potato chips, when their volume increased by 7.7% to X tons. Total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 36% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, potato chips imports expanded rapidly to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +96.5% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
The purchases of the nine major importers of potato chips, namely the Czech Republic, Belarus, Russia, Hungary, Poland, Ukraine, Lithuania, Bulgaria and Slovakia, represented more than two-thirds of total import.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Belarus (with a CAGR of +16.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Belarus ($X), Russia ($X) and Hungary ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 34% share of total imports. The Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Poland, Ukraine and Slovakia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 52%.
The Czech Republic, with a CAGR of +12.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, surging by 2.4% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the import price increased by 8.3% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Bulgaria ($X per ton), while the Czech Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
