It was distantly followed by Romania (X units), achieving a 14% share of total exports. The Czech Republic (X units), Hungary (X units), Russia (X units) and Belarus (X units) held a minor share of total exports.

Exports from Poland increased at an average annual rate of +15.4% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Belarus (+111.3%), Romania (+46.0%), Russia (+33.3%) and Hungary (+13.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +111.3% from 2012-2022. By contrast, the Czech Republic (-3.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Romania, Poland and Belarus increased by +13, +6.9 and +1.6 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest primary cells and primary batteries supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 65% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Czech Republic ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Romania, with an 11% share.

In Poland, primary cells and primary batteries exports increased at an average annual rate of +18.4% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the Czech Republic (+5.6% per year) and Romania (+28.1% per year).

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per unit), while Belarus (less than $X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+9.7%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Eastern Europe

For the seventh year in a row, Eastern Europe recorded growth in overseas purchases of primary cells and primary batteries, which increased by 1.4% to X units in 2022. Total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +89.2% against 2012 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 17% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Total imports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the last decade. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 20% against the previous year. The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per unit in 2022, declining by -4.4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 9.2%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Slovakia ($X per unit), while Russia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
