The East European printing press market shrank modestly to $X in 2022, reducing by -4.6% against the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, enjoyed a slight expansion. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, printing press production reached $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the production volume increased by 10%. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

In 2022, printing press exports in Eastern Europe skyrocketed to X units, with an increase of 45% on the year before. In general, exports saw a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 475% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X units in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, printing press exports surged to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Slovakia was the main exporter of printing presses in Eastern Europe, with the volume of exports accounting for X units, which was approx. 63% of total exports in 2022. Bulgaria (X units) took a 23% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Poland (5.5%). The Czech Republic (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Slovakia increased at an average annual rate of +16.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Bulgaria (+67.8%) and the Czech Republic (+3.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Bulgaria emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +67.8% from 2012-2022. Poland experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. While the share of Bulgaria (+22 p.p.) and Slovakia (+4.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of the Czech Republic (-6 p.p.) and Poland (-20 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, the Czech Republic ($X) remains the largest printing press supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 47% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Poland ($X), with a 21% share of total exports. It was followed by Slovakia, with a 3.6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in the Czech Republic amounted to +1.8%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (-1.6% per year) and Slovakia (+13.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per unit in 2022, waning by -19% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a abrupt descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 176% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per unit), while Slovakia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (-0.8%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Eastern Europe

Printing press imports declined markedly to X units in 2022, shrinking by -15.7% compared with 2021 figures. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 75%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, printing press imports dropped to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a noticeable decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 18% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

The countries with the highest levels of printing press imports in 2022 were Poland (X units), Russia (X units), Slovakia (X units), Romania (X units) and the Czech Republic (X units), together resulting at 87% of total import. The following importers - Hungary (X units) and Belarus (X units) - each finished at a 5.9% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Hungary (with a CAGR of +15.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Russia ($X), Poland ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 69% share of total imports.

The Czech Republic, with a CAGR of +0.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per unit, picking up by 7.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a noticeable descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 45%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per unit), while Slovakia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
