For the fourth year in a row, Eastern Europe recorded decline in shipments abroad of prisms and mirrors, which decreased by -11.5% to X tons in 2022. In general, exports recorded a pronounced contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 32% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, prisms and mirrors exports expanded significantly to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +6.2% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 38%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

The Czech Republic prevails in exports structure, finishing at X tons, which was near 81% of total exports in 2022. Hungary (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 4.8% share, followed by Poland (4.7%). Slovakia (X tons), Bulgaria (X tons) and Russia (X tons) took a little share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to prisms and mirrors exports from the Czech Republic stood at +11.7%. At the same time, Hungary (+27.5%), Russia (+9.7%) and Bulgaria (+2.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 36%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while the Czech Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in Eastern Europe

Prisms and mirrors imports declined remarkably to X tons in 2022, shrinking by -26.1% compared with 2021 figures. In general, imports recorded a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 38% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, prisms and mirrors imports fell to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 33%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then dropped in the following year.

Imports by Country

Hungary (X tons) and Poland (X tons) were the main importers of prisms and mirrors in 2022, amounting to near 43% and 39% of total imports, respectively. It was distantly followed by Slovakia (X tons), achieving a 10% share of total imports. The Czech Republic (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Hungary (with a CAGR of +24.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.

Import price indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, prisms and mirrors import price increased by +75.6% against 2015 indices. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
