The East European market for PVC floor, wall and ceiling coverings fell slightly to $X in 2022, almost unchanged from the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, recorded a slight slump. The level of production peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

After three years of growth, shipments abroad of PVC floor, wall and ceiling coverings decreased by -8.7% to X square meters in 2022. In general, exports, however, enjoyed a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 30% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X square meters, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, exports of PVC floor, wall and ceiling coverings dropped to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 21% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then dropped slightly in the following year.

Exports by Country

Russia represented the key exporting country with an export of about X square meters, which amounted to 56% of total exports. Poland (X square meters) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by the Czech Republic (X square meters) and Hungary (X square meters). All these countries together held near 42% share of total exports.

Exports from Russia increased at an average annual rate of +10.7% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Poland (+14.0%) and the Czech Republic (+6.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Poland emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +14.0% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Hungary (-5.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Russia and Poland increased by +16 and +12 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest PVC floor, wall and ceiling coverings supplying countries in Eastern Europe were Poland ($X), Russia ($X) and Hungary ($X), with a combined 80% share of total exports.

Poland, with a CAGR of +12.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

In 2022, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per square meter, surging by 5.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a pronounced decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the export price increased by 6.9% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per square meter. From 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per square meter), while Russia ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hungary (+2.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Eastern Europe

In 2022, after six years of growth, there was decline in purchases abroad of PVC floor, wall and ceiling coverings, when their volume decreased by -4.7% to X square meters. Total imports indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +91.9% against 2015 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 26% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X square meters, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, imports of PVC floor, wall and ceiling coverings contracted to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +91.9% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 38% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then shrank in the following year.

Poland (X square meters), Russia (X square meters) and the Czech Republic (X square meters) represented roughly 69% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Romania (X square meters) and Ukraine (X square meters), together mixing up a 12% share of total imports. The following importers - Belarus (X square meters) and Hungary (X square meters) - each recorded a 7.8% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Hungary (with a CAGR of +18.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Poland ($X), the Czech Republic ($X) and Russia ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 66% share of total imports. Romania, Ukraine, Hungary and Belarus lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 21%.

Among the main importing countries, Hungary, with a CAGR of +16.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per square meter in 2022, declining by -2.5% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a slight downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the import price increased by 9.2%. The level of import peaked at $X per square meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per square meter), while Poland ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ukraine (-0.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
