For the third year in a row, the East European quilted textile products market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 6% to $X in 2021. Overall, consumption enjoyed a resilient increase. The level of consumption peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

In 2021, overseas shipments of quilted textile products in the piece (excluding embroidery) increased by 6.9% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after five years of decline. In general, exports continue to indicate a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 597%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

In value terms, quilted textile products exports expanded markedly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 1,425% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

The biggest shipments were from Slovakia (X tons), Poland (X tons), Bulgaria (X tons) and Russia (X tons), together finishing at 81% of total export. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X tons), making up a 7.7% share of total exports. Hungary (X tons) and Estonia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Hungary (with a CAGR of +201.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest quilted textile products supplying countries in Eastern Europe were Poland ($X), Slovakia ($X) and Russia ($X), together accounting for 68% of total exports. Hungary, Bulgaria, Estonia and Belarus lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 22%.

Among the main exporting countries, Hungary, with a CAGR of +329.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, approximately reflecting the previous year. Overall, the export price enjoyed a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the export price increased by 119% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Estonia (+71.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Eastern Europe

For the third consecutive year, Eastern Europe recorded growth in purchases abroad of quilted textile products in the piece (excluding embroidery), which increased by 25% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 92% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, quilted textile products imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports posted a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 76%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

Russia represented the largest importing country with an import of about X tons, which resulted at 56% of total imports. Ukraine (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Slovakia (X tons) and Poland (X tons). All these countries together held near 29% share of total imports. The following importers - Belarus (X tons), Bulgaria (X tons), Romania (X tons) and Hungary (X tons) - together made up 11% of total imports.

Imports into Russia increased at an average annual rate of +17.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Slovakia (+98.8%), Bulgaria (+86.3%), Romania (+55.4%), Hungary (+52.6%), Poland (+18.4%) and Ukraine (+4.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Slovakia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +98.8% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Belarus (-4.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Russia (+14 p.p.), Slovakia (+7.9 p.p.), Poland (+5.7 p.p.), Bulgaria (+3.2 p.p.), Romania (+2.2 p.p.) and Hungary (+1.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Belarus (-14.8 p.p.) and Ukraine (-18.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported quilted textile products in the piece (excluding embroidery) in Eastern Europe, comprising 36% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Ukraine ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Poland, with a 9.8% share.

In Russia, quilted textile products imports increased at an average annual rate of +19.9% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Ukraine (+3.8% per year) and Poland (+27.4% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, rising by 6.7% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.4%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.
