In value terms, Belarus ($X) remains the largest railway sleeper supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 96% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Ukraine ($X), with a 4.4% share of total exports.

In 2021, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per cubic meter, rising by 4.5% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a noticeable shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the export price increased by 30% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per cubic meter. From 2018 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per cubic meter), while Ukraine stood at $X per cubic meter.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belarus (+1.3%).

Imports in Eastern Europe
In 2021, supplies from abroad of railway or tramway sleepers (cross-ties) of wood decreased by -2.5% to X cubic meters, falling for the second consecutive year after three years of growth. Over the period under review, imports recorded a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 39%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X cubic meters in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, railway sleeper imports dropped to $X in 2021. Overall, imports faced a abrupt decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 48% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Ukraine represented the major importer of railway or tramway sleepers (cross-ties) of wood in Eastern Europe, with the volume of imports reaching X cubic meters, which was near 61% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Moldova (X cubic meters), generating a 39% share of total imports.
