Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 46% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, railway track fixture exports rose to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a slight descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 34%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Russia was the major exporting country with an export of about X tons, which resulted at 62% of total exports. Ukraine (X tons) held a 19% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Belarus (5.7%). Slovakia (X tons), Hungary (X tons), Poland (X tons) and Bulgaria (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Russia increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Bulgaria (+26.6%), Slovakia (+16.9%), Hungary (+3.3%) and Belarus (+1.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Bulgaria emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +26.6% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Poland (-3.0%) and Ukraine (-8.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Russia (+24 p.p.), Slovakia (+2.3 p.p.) and Bulgaria (+1.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Ukraine (-24.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest railway track fixture supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 43% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Ukraine ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Bulgaria, with a 9.4% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Russia was relatively modest. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ukraine (-8.0% per year) and Bulgaria (+40.2% per year).

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, reducing by -6% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a mild downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the export price increased by 34%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Bulgaria ($X per ton), while Slovakia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bulgaria (+10.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, imports of railway or tramway track fixtures and fittings in Eastern Europe skyrocketed to X tons, rising by 35% against 2020 figures. Total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +116.7% against 2016 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Poland, with a CAGR of +11.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, falling by -31.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a pronounced curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 52%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
