The yield figure increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the yield increased by 31% against the previous year. As a result, the yield attained the peak level of X tons per ha. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and cranberry yield failed to regain momentum. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +69.0% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 27% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and cranberry exports reduced modestly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports recorded resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 44% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then shrank slightly in the following year.

Poland dominates exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was near 71% of total exports in 2022. Romania (X tons) held an 8.5% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Ukraine (6.7%) and Latvia (4.9%). Belarus (X tons) and Lithuania (X tons) took a little share of total exports.

Exports from Poland increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Romania (+19.0%), Ukraine (+14.0%), Belarus (+12.4%) and Latvia (+11.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Romania emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +19.0% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Lithuania (-2.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Romania (+5.7 p.p.), Ukraine (+3.3 p.p.) and Latvia (+1.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Lithuania (-3.5 p.p.) and Poland (-8.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and cranberry supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 72% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Romania ($X), with a 9% share of total exports. It was followed by Ukraine, with a 5.1% share.

In Poland, raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and cranberry exports increased at an average annual rate of +13.0% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Romania (+25.0% per year) and Ukraine (+19.8% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by -12.1% against the previous year. Export price indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 26%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Lithuania ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in Eastern Europe

For the eleventh consecutive year, Eastern Europe recorded growth in supplies from abroad of raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, and cranberries, which increased by 30% to X tons in 2022. In general, imports enjoyed a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 54%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

In value terms, raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and cranberry imports rose sharply to $X in 2022. Overall, imports saw significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 48%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Poland (X tons) was the main importer of raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, and cranberries, constituting 36% of total imports. Russia (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 16% share, followed by the Czech Republic (9.2%), Lithuania (8.6%), Estonia (6.6%), Romania (5%), Belarus (5%) and Latvia (4.8%).

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and cranberry imports into Poland stood at +35.7%. Poland (+20 p.p.), Estonia (+5.6 p.p.), the Czech Republic (+5 p.p.), Latvia (+3.7 p.p.), Belarus (+3.7 p.p.) and Romania (+3.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Lithuania and Russia saw its share reduced by -21.4% and -21.6% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, Poland ($X), Russia ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 67% share of total imports. Lithuania, Romania, Latvia, Estonia and Belarus lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 23%.

Among the main importing countries, Romania, with a CAGR of +45.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -12.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a noticeable decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the import price increased by 19%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
