Register Book Market Size in Eastern Europe

In 2022, the East European register book market decreased by -3.5% to $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, consumption, however, saw a perceptible contraction. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Register book exports rose sharply to X tons in 2022, picking up by 12% compared with the year before. Total exports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +34.9% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 20%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, register book exports expanded notably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Poland represented the largest exporting country with an export of about X tons, which recorded 55% of total exports. The Czech Republic (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 12% share, followed by Estonia (6.2%), Russia (6.1%), Slovakia (5.3%) and Romania (4.5%). Lithuania (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.

Exports from Poland increased at an average annual rate of +9.9% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Russia (+10.3%), Estonia (+9.0%), the Czech Republic (+4.2%), Romania (+1.4%) and Slovakia (+1.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Russia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +10.3% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Lithuania (-8.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Poland and Russia increased by +16 and +1.9 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest register book supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 64% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Czech Republic ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Romania, with a 6.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Poland amounted to +16.5%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the Czech Republic (+9.2% per year) and Romania (+5.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -5.7% against the previous year. Export price indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the export price increased by 18% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +36.9% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 22% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, register book imports totaled $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +100.1% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 29%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Poland (X tons) and Russia (X tons) represented roughly 52% of total imports in 2022. The Czech Republic (X tons) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Hungary (X tons), Romania (X tons) and Slovakia (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 37% share of total imports. The following importers - Belarus (X tons) and Ukraine (X tons) - together made up 5.6% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Poland (with a CAGR of +14.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest register book importing markets in Eastern Europe were Poland ($X), Russia ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X), with a combined 64% share of total imports.
