The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 74% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, deformed non-alloy steel wire rod exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports enjoyed a resilient expansion. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Russia was the key exporting country with an export of around X tons, which reached 47% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Ukraine (X tons), Poland (X tons), Belarus (X tons) and Moldova (X tons), together mixing up a 52% share of total exports.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Poland ($X per ton) and Moldova ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) and Russia ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Moldova (+2.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Eastern Europe
In 2021, supplies from abroad of ribbed or other deformed wire rod of non-alloy steel increased by 7.3% to X tons, rising for the seventh consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports recorded a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 50%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, deformed non-alloy steel wire rod imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports posted resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 77%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Romania (X tons) was the largest importer of ribbed or other deformed wire rod of non-alloy steel, committing 41% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Hungary (X tons), Poland (X tons), Bulgaria (X tons), Slovakia (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons), together generating a 54% share of total imports. Lithuania (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Imports into Romania increased at an average annual rate of +22.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Lithuania (+42.5%), Hungary (+40.2%), Slovakia (+15.3%), Bulgaria (+15.0%) and Poland (+11.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Lithuania emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +42.5% from 2012-2021. By contrast, the Czech Republic (-16.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Lithuania and Poland increased by +26, +16, +2.6, +2.6, +2.5 and +2.1 percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, Romania ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported ribbed or other deformed wire rod of non-alloy steel in Eastern Europe, comprising 39% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Hungary ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by Poland, with a 16% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Romania totaled +24.7%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Hungary (+43.0% per year) and Poland (+14.8% per year).
