The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, roasted coffee substitutes exports rose sharply to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Poland was the largest exporter of roasted chicory and other roasted coffee substitutes in Eastern Europe, with the volume of exports amounting to X tons, which was near 63% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X tons), Russia (X tons) and Ukraine (X tons), together comprising a 34% share of total exports. The Czech Republic (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.

Poland experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of roasted chicory and other roasted coffee substitutes. At the same time, Belarus (+22.0%) and Russia (+16.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +22.0% from 2012-2021. The Czech Republic experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Ukraine (-5.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Belarus (+12 p.p.) and Russia (+7.4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Ukraine and Poland saw its share reduced by -8.1% and -9.7% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest roasted coffee substitutes supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 77% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Russia ($X), with an 8.9% share of total exports. It was followed by Belarus, with a 5.3% share.

In Poland, roasted coffee substitutes exports increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Russia (+5.5% per year) and Belarus (+16.9% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, rising by 1.6% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 5.7% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+1.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Eastern Europe

In 2021, overseas purchases of roasted chicory and other roasted coffee substitutes increased by 3.9% to X tons, rising for the third consecutive year after five years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 21%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, roasted coffee substitutes imports expanded sharply to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 13%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Russia (X tons) was the largest importer of roasted chicory and other roasted coffee substitutes, generating 58% of total imports. Poland (X tons) took a 13% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Ukraine (9.2%), the Czech Republic (6.7%) and Belarus (5%). The following importers - Slovakia (X tons) and Romania (X tons) - each finished at a 4.6% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to roasted coffee substitutes imports into Russia stood at -2.6%. At the same time, Belarus (+15.6%) and Romania (+2.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +15.6% from 2012-2021. The Czech Republic experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Slovakia (-2.3%), Ukraine (-3.1%) and Poland (-5.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Belarus (+4 p.p.), Russia (+2.4 p.p.) and the Czech Republic (+2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Poland saw its share reduced by -3.1% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported roasted chicory and other roasted coffee substitutes in Eastern Europe, comprising 47% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Czech Republic ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Poland, with a 9.4% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Russia totaled -7.7%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Czech Republic (-1.2% per year) and Poland (-5.0% per year).

In 2021, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, rising by 5.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible descent.
