In 2022, the amount of roasted decaffeinated coffee exported in Eastern Europe expanded sharply to X tons, with an increase of 9.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a perceptible reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 102% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, roasted decaffeinated coffee exports soared to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded a pronounced decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 82%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

The Czech Republic was the key exporter of roasted decaffeinated coffee in Eastern Europe, with the volume of exports finishing at X tons, which was approx. 46% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Poland (X tons), Bulgaria (X tons) and Slovakia (X tons), together mixing up a 45% share of total exports. The following exporters - Latvia (X tons), Russia (X tons) and Lithuania (X tons) - each reached a 6.7% share of total exports.

Exports from the Czech Republic decreased at an average annual rate of -8.3% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Latvia (+43.2%), Bulgaria (+31.7%), Russia (+24.4%), Lithuania (+7.8%) and Poland (+5.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Latvia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +43.2% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Slovakia (-4.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Poland (+12 p.p.), Bulgaria (+12 p.p.), Latvia (+2.3 p.p.) and Russia (+2.1 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the Czech Republic saw its share reduced by -28.6% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the Czech Republic ($X) remains the largest roasted decaffeinated coffee supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 49% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Poland ($X), with a 22% share of total exports. It was followed by Slovakia, with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in the Czech Republic amounted to -7.2%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Poland (+3.2% per year) and Slovakia (-4.3% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 9.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 38% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Lithuania ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Lithuania (+3.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Eastern Europe

In 2022, imports of roasted decaffeinated coffee in Eastern Europe rose notably to X tons, increasing by 7.1% compared with the previous year. In general, imports continue to indicate a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 65%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, roasted decaffeinated coffee imports rose markedly to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +95.1% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 57% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

Poland represented the major importing country with an import of about X tons, which accounted for 38% of total imports. The Czech Republic (X tons) took a 16% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Romania (14%), Slovakia (6.4%), Bulgaria (6.3%), Russia (6.3%) and Hungary (6.2%).

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to roasted decaffeinated coffee imports into Poland stood at +18.6%. At the same time, the Czech Republic (+19.4%), Bulgaria (+9.3%), Hungary (+8.5%) and Russia (+3.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Czech Republic emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +19.4% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Romania (-2.1%) and Slovakia (-4.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Poland and the Czech Republic increased by +24 and +10 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Poland ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported roasted decaffeinated coffee in Eastern Europe, comprising 34% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Czech Republic ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Romania, with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Poland totaled +18.9%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Czech Republic (+15.6% per year) and Romania (-0.2% per year).

The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 5.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the import price increased by 25% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Romania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
