From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to roller bearing exports from Slovakia stood at +2.5%. At the same time, Bulgaria (+9.5%) and Poland (+5.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Bulgaria emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +9.5% from 2012-2021. By contrast, the Czech Republic (-2.5%) and Romania (-17.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Slovakia and Poland increased by +22 and +8.4 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Slovakia ($X) remains the largest roller bearing supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 50% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Poland ($X), with a 21% share of total exports. It was followed by Romania, with a 10% share.

In Slovakia, roller bearing exports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Poland (+2.8% per year) and Romania (-17.5% per year).

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 4.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a slight setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the export price increased by 18% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Bulgaria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, after three years of decline, there was significant growth in purchases abroad of roller bearings, when their volume increased by 29% to X tons. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a mild contraction. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports into Poland increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Bulgaria (+7.1%) and Romania (+5.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Bulgaria emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +7.1% from 2012-2021. Slovakia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, the Czech Republic (-1.9%), Russia (-5.6%) and Hungary (-14.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Poland (+11 p.p.), Romania (+5.6 p.p.) and Bulgaria (+1.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Russia and Hungary saw its share reduced by -6.8% and -15% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest roller bearing importing markets in Eastern Europe were Poland ($X), the Czech Republic ($X) and Romania ($X), with a combined 67% share of total imports. Russia, Hungary, Slovakia and Bulgaria lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 24%.

Among the main importing countries, Bulgaria, with a CAGR of +7.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 9.4% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.6%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 18% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
