In value terms, rusks and toasted bread exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +68.3% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 20%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Lithuania (X tons) held a 12% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Romania (10%) and Ukraine (7%). Latvia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Romania (with a CAGR of +32.2%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Bulgaria ($X), Russia ($X) and Poland ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 64% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Romania, Ukraine, Lithuania and Latvia, which together accounted for a further 30%.

Romania, with a CAGR of +36.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 7.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a mild decline. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Romania ($X per ton), while Lithuania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+5.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest rusks and toasted bread importing markets in Eastern Europe were Russia ($X), the Czech Republic ($X) and Romania ($X), with a combined 43% share of total imports. Poland, Belarus, Slovakia and Hungary lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 33%.

Hungary, with a CAGR of +16.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
