In 2022, the amount of safety glass exported in Eastern Europe shrank slightly to X square meters, flattening at 2021 figures. Total exports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +11.5% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 21%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X square meters in 2021, and then declined slightly in the following year.

In value terms, safety glass exports rose slightly to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 27%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Poland represented the major exporter of safety glass in Eastern Europe, with the volume of exports finishing at X square meters, which was approx. 40% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by the Czech Republic (X square meters), Hungary (X square meters), Bulgaria (X square meters), Russia (X square meters) and Romania (X square meters), together committing a 51% share of total exports. Belarus (X square meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Poland increased at an average annual rate of +6.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Romania (+24.2%), Russia (+23.1%), Belarus (+9.6%), Bulgaria (+6.0%), the Czech Republic (+4.8%) and Hungary (+3.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Romania emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +24.2% from 2012-2022. While the share of Russia (+4.9 p.p.) and Romania (+4 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of the Czech Republic (-2.8 p.p.) and Hungary (-4.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Poland ($X), the Czech Republic ($X) and Hungary ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together comprising 76% of total exports. These countries were followed by Romania, Bulgaria, Russia and Belarus, which together accounted for a further 14%.

Romania, with a CAGR of +27.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per square meter in 2022, surging by 4.5% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the export price increased by 7.8%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per square meter in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per square meter), while Belarus ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 14%. The volume of import peaked at X square meters in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

In value terms, safety glass imports dropped to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 15%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

The countries with the highest levels of safety glass imports in 2022 were Poland (X square meters), Russia (X square meters), Slovakia (X square meters), the Czech Republic (X square meters), Romania (X square meters) and Hungary (X square meters), together finishing at 87% of total import. It was distantly followed by Lithuania (X square meters), constituting a 4.6% share of total imports.

Over the period under review, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the import price increased by 8.3% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per square meter in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per square meter), while Lithuania ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
