The East European bed-convertible seat market shrank to $X in 2021, waning by -5.2% against the previous year. In general, consumption recorded a slight curtailment. In 2021, overseas shipments of seats convertible into beds increased by 15% to X units, rising for the third consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, exports saw a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 78%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, bed-convertible seat exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports enjoyed resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 82% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Poland (X units) represented the major exporter of seats convertible into beds, creating 69% of total exports. Romania (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 13% share, followed by Belarus (4.9%). Ukraine (X units), Slovakia (X units), Russia (X units) and the Czech Republic (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Poland increased at an average annual rate of +6.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, the Czech Republic (+18.5%), Russia (+16.1%), Ukraine (+9.8%), Slovakia (+7.5%) and Belarus (+6.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Czech Republic emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +18.5% from 2012-2021. Romania experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Poland increased by +3.6 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest bed-convertible seat supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 69% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Romania ($X), with an 8.6% share of total exports. It was followed by Ukraine, with a 5.9% share.

In Poland, bed-convertible seat exports expanded at an average annual rate of +7.6% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Romania (-0.1% per year) and Ukraine (+16.4% per year).

In 2021, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per unit, with an increase of 14% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.2%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 36%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Ukraine ($X per unit), while Romania ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

For the third year in a row, Eastern Europe recorded growth in supplies from abroad of seats convertible into beds, which increased by 22% to X units in 2021. Overall, imports showed a remarkable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 47% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, bed-convertible seat imports surged to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +102.5% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 37% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

The Czech Republic (X units) and Poland (X units) represented roughly 46% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Russia (X units), Lithuania (X units), Romania (X units), Hungary (X units) and Slovakia (X units), together achieving a 40% share of total imports. Latvia (X units) held a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Poland (with a CAGR of +21.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest bed-convertible seat importing markets in Eastern Europe were the Czech Republic ($X), Poland ($X) and Russia ($X), together accounting for 57% of total imports.

Poland, with a CAGR of +20.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
