Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 100%. The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, self-propelled boring machinery exports contracted to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw a perceptible reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 107%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Latvia (X units), Poland (X units) and Russia (X units) was the main exporter of self-propelled boring or sinking machinery in Eastern Europe, achieving 76% of total export. It was distantly followed by Estonia (X units), generating an 8.7% share of total exports. The following exporters - the Czech Republic (X units), Romania (X units) and Belarus (X units) - together made up 10% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Latvia (with a CAGR of +77.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Poland ($X), Russia ($X) and Estonia ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 77% share of total exports. Belarus, the Czech Republic, Romania and Latvia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 17%.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Latvia, with a CAGR of +23.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per unit in 2022, which is down by -10.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a abrupt slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the export price increased by 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per unit), while Latvia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belarus (-2.7%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Eastern Europe

Self-propelled boring machinery imports skyrocketed to X units in 2022, rising by 29% against 2021 figures. Over the period under review, imports recorded a tangible expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 58% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, self-propelled boring machinery imports declined to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 51%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, Russia (X units) represented the largest importer of self-propelled boring or sinking machinery, committing 63% of total imports. Romania (X units) took a 13% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Hungary (10%). Moreover, Hungary emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +55.9% from 2012-2022. Romania (+12 p.p.) and Hungary (+10 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Russia saw its share reduced by -16.8% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported self-propelled boring or sinking machinery in Eastern Europe, comprising 74% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Poland ($X), with a 6.9% share of total imports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with a 3.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Russia amounted to -5.9%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (+5.0% per year) and the Czech Republic (+9.2% per year).

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per unit), while Hungary ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
