In value terms, semi-chemical wood pulp exports stood at $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +34.1% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 79%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Imports in Eastern Europe

In 2022, purchases abroad of semi-chemical wood pulp decreased by -12% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, semi-chemical wood pulp imports contracted to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +34.7% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 37% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then reduced in the following year.

Poland experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of semi-chemical wood pulp. At the same time, Slovakia (+87.0%) and Hungary (+61.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Slovakia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +87.0% from 2012-2022. In value terms, Poland ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported semi-chemical wood pulp in Eastern Europe, comprising 72% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Hungary ($X), with a 17% share of total imports.

In Poland, semi-chemical wood pulp imports increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Hungary (+51.6% per year) and Slovakia (+78.2% per year).
