The East European semiconductor device market contracted to $X in 2021, waning by -5.2% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, recorded a abrupt downturn. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Exports in Eastern Europe
In 2021, shipments abroad of semiconductor devices was finally on the rise to reach X units after three years of decline. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 57%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, semiconductor device exports surged to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +111.3% against 2015 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Poland (X units), distantly followed by Russia (X units), Ukraine (X units), Hungary (X units), Slovakia (X units), Romania (X units) and the Czech Republic (X units) represented the largest exporters of semiconductor devices, together comprising 98% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Romania (with a CAGR of +68.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Russia ($X), Poland ($X) and Ukraine ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together comprising 85% of total exports. These countries were followed by the Czech Republic, Romania, Slovakia and Hungary, which together accounted for a further 14%.
Romania, with a CAGR of +67.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per unit, growing by 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price posted a pronounced increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 42% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per unit), while Hungary ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+19.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Eastern Europe
In 2021, overseas purchases of semiconductor devices were finally on the rise to reach X units for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Overall, imports continue to indicate resilient growth. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, semiconductor device imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Poland was the major importer of semiconductor devices in Eastern Europe, with the volume of imports reaching X units, which was approx. 52% of total imports in 2021. The Czech Republic (X units) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Hungary (X units) and Romania (X units). All these countries together held near 40% share of total imports. Russia (X units) and Bulgaria (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to semiconductor device imports into Poland stood at +14.7%. At the same time, Romania (+21.9%), the Czech Republic (+16.8%) and Hungary (+13.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Romania emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +21.9% from 2012-2021. Russia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Bulgaria (-13.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Poland (+12 p.p.), Romania (+6.2 p.p.), the Czech Republic (+5.6 p.p.) and Hungary (+2.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Russia and Bulgaria saw its share reduced by -5.5% and -19.1% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, Poland ($X), the Czech Republic ($X) and Hungary ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 77% of total imports.
The Czech Republic, with a CAGR of +12.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per unit in 2021, dropping by -30.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a abrupt setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the import price increased by 47%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Bulgaria ($X per unit), while Poland ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+7.0%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
