The East European semiconductor LED market surged to $X in 2021, with an increase of 17% against the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, saw a mild slump. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, semiconductor LED production shrank to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, showed a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 414% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports in Eastern Europe
After two years of decline, shipments abroad of semiconductor light emitting diodes (LEDs) increased by 42% to X units in 2021. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when exports increased by 91% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, semiconductor LED exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 36%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
The Czech Republic was the key exporting country with an export of about X units, which accounted for 54% of total exports. Poland (X units) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Lithuania (X units) and Hungary (X units). All these countries together held near 33% share of total exports. Bulgaria (X units), Slovakia (X units) and Estonia (X units) took a relatively small share of total exports.
Exports from the Czech Republic decreased at an average annual rate of -12.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Lithuania (+33.0%), Estonia (+14.9%), Poland (+8.7%) and Bulgaria (+2.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Lithuania emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +33.0% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Slovakia (-6.5%) and Hungary (-23.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Poland (+16 p.p.), Lithuania (+7.2 p.p.), Bulgaria (+3.1 p.p.) and Estonia (+1.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the Czech Republic and Hungary saw its share reduced by -10.9% and -20% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the Czech Republic ($X), Poland ($X) and Hungary ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 70% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Lithuania, Slovakia, Bulgaria and Estonia, which together accounted for a further 13%.
In terms of the main exporting countries, Lithuania, with a CAGR of +14.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per unit, shrinking by -8.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the export price increased by 27% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2020, and then contracted in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per unit), while Bulgaria ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hungary (+8.4%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Eastern Europe
Semiconductor LED imports skyrocketed to X units in 2021, picking up by 24% on the year before. Over the period under review, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 173% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, semiconductor LED imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 68%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Poland represented the main importing country with an import of around X units, which finished at 41% of total imports. Hungary (X units) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Ukraine (X units), Russia (X units), the Czech Republic (X units) and Bulgaria (X units). All these countries together held approx. 49% share of total imports. Lithuania (X units) took a minor share of total imports.
Poland was also the fastest-growing in terms of the semiconductor light emitting diodes (LEDs) imports, with a CAGR of +75.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Lithuania (+43.3%) and Russia (+19.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Ukraine (-2.1%), the Czech Republic (-3.2%), Bulgaria (-9.6%) and Hungary (-11.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Poland, Russia and Lithuania increased by +41, +6.7 and +2.5 percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, Poland ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported semiconductor light emitting diodes (LEDs) in Eastern Europe, comprising 43% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Hungary ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with a 9.2% share.
In Poland, semiconductor LED imports increased at an average annual rate of +39.8% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Hungary (+0.7% per year) and the Czech Republic (-5.6% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per unit in 2021, growing by 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 83% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per unit), while Ukraine ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hungary (+14.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
