In general, exports continue to indicate a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 15%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, pyrotechnic articles exports rose modestly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate a mild shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 84% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

The Czech Republic dominates exports structure, reaching X tons, which was near 88% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Bulgaria (X tons), achieving a 6% share of total exports. Hungary (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.

Exports from the Czech Republic decreased at an average annual rate of -12.7% from 2012 to 2021. Bulgaria and Hungary experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. The Czech Republic (+14 p.p.), Bulgaria (+4.5 p.p.) and Hungary (+2.3 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the Czech Republic ($X) remains the largest pyrotechnic articles supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 77% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Bulgaria ($X), with a 12% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in the Czech Republic amounted to +12.4%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Bulgaria (-3.6% per year) and Hungary (+7.3% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 143% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a remarkable increase. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per ton), while the Czech Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+28.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Eastern Europe

In 2021, purchases abroad of signalling flares, rain rockets, fog signals and other pyrotechnic articles increased by 12% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Total imports indicated mild growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -35.1% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 51%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, pyrotechnic articles imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports showed strong growth. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

The Czech Republic (X tons) and Poland (X tons) were the major importers of signalling flares, rain rockets, fog signals and other pyrotechnic articles in 2021, accounting for approx. 29% and 21% of total imports, respectively. It was distantly followed by Ukraine (X tons), Latvia (X tons), Moldova (X tons) and Slovakia (X tons), together committing a 34% share of total imports. Romania (X tons) held a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Slovakia (with a CAGR of +53.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Poland ($X), Ukraine ($X) and Moldova ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 66% of total imports. These countries were followed by Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Latvia and Romania, which together accounted for a further 17%.

Slovakia, with a CAGR of +66.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 213% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a resilient expansion. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Ukraine ($X per ton), while Latvia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
