The volume of export peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, silk shawl and scarf exports contracted markedly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a perceptible decrease. Poland prevails in exports structure, reaching X units, which was near 73% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Lithuania (X units) and Romania (X units), together generating a 12% share of total exports. The following exporters - Belarus (X units), Latvia (X units), the Czech Republic (X units) and Hungary (X units) - together made up 12% of total exports.

Poland experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of silk shawls and scarves. At the same time, Belarus (+38.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +38.4% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Lithuania (-5.7%), Hungary (-9.3%), Latvia (-10.8%), Romania (-14.9%) and the Czech Republic (-23.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Poland (+50 p.p.), Belarus (+4 p.p.) and Lithuania (+3.3 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Romania and the Czech Republic saw its share reduced by -2.7% and -8.8% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest silk shawl and scarf supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 62% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Lithuania ($X), with a 9.6% share of total exports. It was followed by Romania, with a 7.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Poland stood at +6.9%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Lithuania (-0.9% per year) and Romania (-9.6% per year).

In 2022, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per unit, dropping by -12.5% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the export price increased by 180%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Latvia ($X per unit), while Belarus ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Latvia (+22.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Silk shawl and scarf imports shrank sharply to X units in 2022, reducing by -18.1% against the year before. Overall, imports recorded a abrupt shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
