In 2021, shipments abroad of skis for winter sports decreased by -19.9% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after three years of growth. In general, exports saw a noticeable decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 15% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, skis exports dropped to $X in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate a pronounced curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 18% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Bulgaria (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) were the main exporters of skis for winter sports in 2021, recording near 40% and 33% of total exports, respectively. It was distantly followed by Ukraine (X tons), creating a 13% share of total exports. Poland (X tons), Russia (X tons) and Belarus (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Poland (with a CAGR of +11.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Bulgaria ($X), the Czech Republic ($X) and Ukraine ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together comprising 86% of total exports. These countries were followed by Poland, Russia and Belarus, which together accounted for a further 9.2%.
In terms of the main exporting countries, Poland, with a CAGR of +13.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, surging by 8% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.7%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the export price increased by 9.3%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ukraine (+3.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Eastern Europe
In 2021, approx. X tons of skis for winter sports were imported in Eastern Europe; surging by 1.9% against the year before. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a perceptible contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 37% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, skis imports rose remarkably to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a mild curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 40%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Russia (X tons), distantly followed by the Czech Republic (X tons), Poland (X tons), Slovakia (X tons) and Romania (X tons) were the key importers of skis for winter sports, together committing 85% of total imports. Bulgaria (X tons) and Belarus (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Romania (with a CAGR of +9.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Russia ($X), the Czech Republic ($X) and Poland ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 75% of total imports. Slovakia, Romania, Bulgaria and Belarus lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 17%.
Romania, with a CAGR of +13.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 7.3% against the previous year. Import price indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, skis import price increased by +64.6% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
