In value terms, exports of smoked fish other than salmon and herring expanded slightly to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -0.1% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 40% against the previous year. Poland dominates herring structure, finishing at X tons, which was approx. 72% of total exports in 2021. Lithuania (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Belarus (X tons). All these countries together held near 18% share of total exports. The Czech Republic (X tons), Russia (X tons) and Estonia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to smoked fish other than salmon and herring exports from Poland stood at +6.0%. At the same time, Russia (+19.8%), Belarus (+8.5%) and Lithuania (+7.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Russia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +19.8% from 2012-2021. The Czech Republic experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Estonia (-1.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Russia increased by +1.6 percentage points. In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest smoked fish other than salmon and herring supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 76% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with an 8.8% share of total exports. It was followed by Lithuania, with an 8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Poland totaled +6.1%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belarus (+12.2% per year) and Lithuania (+13.6% per year).

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, remaining constant against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the export price increased by 15%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Estonia ($X per ton), while the Czech Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Lithuania (+5.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of smoked fish other than salmon and herring surged to X tons in 2021, with an increase of 46% on 2020. Over the period under review, imports saw a buoyant expansion. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, imports of smoked fish other than salmon and herring surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports enjoyed a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 72% against the previous year. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest smoked fish other than salmon and herring importing markets in Eastern Europe were Russia ($X), Romania ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X), with a combined 62% share of total imports.

In terms of the main importing countries, Russia, with a CAGR of +22.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year.
