Plastic Ornamental Articles Market Size in Eastern Europe

In 2022, the East European plastic ornamental articles market increased by 2.5% to $X, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, consumption recorded a noticeable decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 9% against the previous year. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, plastic ornamental articles production expanded modestly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, showed a pronounced decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the production volume increased by 35% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports in Eastern Europe

In 2022, overseas shipments of statuettes and other ornamental articles of plastic decreased by -9.2% to X tons, falling for the third consecutive year after three years of growth. Overall, exports, however, recorded a perceptible expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 35% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, plastic ornamental articles exports declined to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, posted a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by 58% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then declined modestly in the following year.

Exports by Country

Poland represented the main exporter of statuettes and other ornamental articles of plastic in Eastern Europe, with the volume of exports finishing at X tons, which was near 49% of total exports in 2022. Hungary (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 13% share, followed by Slovakia (9.4%), the Czech Republic (8.7%) and Russia (6.9%). The following exporters - Ukraine (X tons) and Belarus (X tons) - each resulted at a 7.6% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to plastic ornamental articles exports from Poland stood at +4.8%. At the same time, Hungary (+45.1%), Slovakia (+40.2%), Belarus (+37.5%) and Russia (+23.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Hungary emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +45.1% from 2012-2022. By contrast, the Czech Republic (-2.3%) and Ukraine (-12.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Hungary (+13 p.p.), Slovakia (+9 p.p.), Poland (+7 p.p.), Russia (+5.8 p.p.) and Belarus (+3.3 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of the Czech Republic (-6.3 p.p.) and Ukraine (-17.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest plastic ornamental articles supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 56% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Czech Republic ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Slovakia, with a 9.3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Poland stood at +12.3%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Czech Republic (+8.6% per year) and Slovakia (+29.8% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 4.7% against the previous year. Export price indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, plastic ornamental articles export price increased by +86.3% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the export price increased by 25%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Hungary ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+11.1%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Eastern Europe

In 2022, approx. X tons of statuettes and other ornamental articles of plastic were imported in Eastern Europe; with a decrease of -5.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 42%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, plastic ornamental articles imports shrank slightly to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a noticeable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +21.7% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 50%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Poland (X tons) and Russia (X tons) represented the key importers of statuettes and other ornamental articles of plastic in 2022, recording approx. 28% and 28% of total imports, respectively. The Czech Republic (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 9.2% share, followed by Romania (8.9%), Hungary (7.7%) and Slovakia (4.7%). The following importers - Bulgaria (X tons) and Ukraine (X tons) - each reached a 5.5% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Hungary (with a CAGR of +16.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest plastic ornamental articles importing markets in Eastern Europe were Poland ($X), Russia ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X), together comprising 64% of total imports. Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, Bulgaria and Ukraine lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 29%.

Hungary, with a CAGR of +17.2%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, surging by 3.9% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.5%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the import price increased by 24%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ukraine (+6.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
