From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Poland amounted to -3.4%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belarus (-11.4% per year) and Russia (+6.0% per year).

In 2021, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 5.2% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a abrupt contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the export price increased by 53% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

From 2012 to 2021, the share of Slovakia, Romania, Hungary and the Czech Republic increased by +9.7, +5.2, +2.6 and +1.5 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Russia ($X), Poland ($X) and Slovakia ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 56% of total imports. Hungary, the Czech Republic, Romania and Ukraine lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 28%.

Among the main importing countries, Hungary, with a CAGR of +9.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, jumping by 27% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.5%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the import price increased by 31% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Ukraine ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hungary (+4.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
