The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 8.6%. The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, candy, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery exports rose slightly to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 13%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
The shipments of the five major exporters of candies, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery, namely Poland, Russia, the Czech Republic, Ukraine and Slovakia, represented more than two-thirds of total export. It was distantly followed by Hungary (X tons), mixing up a 5.7% share of total exports. Lithuania (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Slovakia (with a CAGR of +11.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest candy, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 37% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Czech Republic ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Russia, with a 13% share.
In Poland, candy, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery exports expanded at an average annual rate of +8.7% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Czech Republic (+3.0% per year) and Russia (+1.0% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 5.3%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while Ukraine ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Lithuania (+1.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Eastern Europe
In 2022, approx. X tons of candies, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery were imported in Eastern Europe; dropping by -3.9% against 2021 figures. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 13% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2021, and then shrank modestly in the following year.
In value terms, candy, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery imports reduced slightly to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 16% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then dropped slightly in the following year.
Imports by Country
Poland (X tons) and Russia (X tons) represented the major importers of candies, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery in 2022, amounting to approx. 27% and 22% of total imports, respectively. It was distantly followed by Romania (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Hungary (X tons), Lithuania (X tons) and Slovakia (X tons), together making up a 36% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Romania (with a CAGR of +9.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Poland ($X), Russia ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 56% of total imports. Romania, Hungary, Lithuania and Slovakia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 28%.
Romania, with a CAGR of +12.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, surging by 2.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 6.1% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2014; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in the Czech Republic ($X per ton) and Hungary ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) and Romania ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
