The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 49%. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports in Eastern Europe

In 2022, overseas shipments of sulphides, polysulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates increased by 1.1% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after three years of decline. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a perceptible contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 66%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates exports contracted to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +21.7% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 49%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Russia (X tons) and Poland (X tons) prevails in exports structure, together committing 75% of total exports. Bulgaria (X tons) held the next position in the ranking, followed by the Czech Republic (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 13% share of total exports. The following exporters - Ukraine (X tons), Lithuania (X tons) and Belarus (X tons) - each accounted for an 8.9% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by the Czech Republic (with a CAGR of +11.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Poland ($X), the Czech Republic ($X) and Russia ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 78% share of total exports.

The Czech Republic, with a CAGR of +16.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, falling by -8.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the export price increased by 42%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Bulgaria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in Eastern Europe

In 2022, approx. X tons of sulphides, polysulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates were imported in Eastern Europe; with an increase of 4.1% against the year before. Total imports indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -19.7% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 32%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 28% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Russia (X tons) represented the largest importer of sulphides, polysulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates, generating 73% of total imports. Poland (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with an 11% share, followed by Bulgaria (7.1%). The Czech Republic (X tons) and Slovakia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates imports into Russia stood at +2.7%. At the same time, Poland (+7.2%) and the Czech Republic (+1.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Poland emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +7.2% from 2012-2022. Slovakia and Bulgaria experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. While the share of Russia (+5.6 p.p.) and Poland (+4.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Bulgaria (-1.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported sulphides, polysulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates in Eastern Europe, comprising 46% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Poland ($X), with a 23% share of total imports. It was followed by Bulgaria, with a 9.5% share.

In Russia, sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates imports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (+10.3% per year) and Bulgaria (+5.0% per year).

The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 23%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
