Sulphonamides Market Size in Eastern Europe

The East European sulphonamides market contracted to $X in 2021, falling by -6.9% against the previous year. In general, consumption continues to indicate a noticeable shrinkage. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Sulphonamides Production in Eastern Europe

In value terms, sulphonamides production fell dramatically to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production recorded a pronounced curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the production volume increased by 191%. Over the period under review, production reached the peak level at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in Eastern Europe

In 2021, the amount of sulphonamides exported in Eastern Europe surged to X tons, with an increase of 46% compared with the year before. Over the period under review, exports showed a buoyant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 165%. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, sulphonamides exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports saw a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 127%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Poland represented the largest exporter of sulphonamides in Eastern Europe, with the volume of exports reaching X tons, which was near 52% of total exports in 2021. Lithuania (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Russia (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons). All these countries together held near 42% share of total exports. Romania (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to sulphonamides exports from Poland stood at +15.1%. At the same time, Romania (+122.8%), Lithuania (+93.7%) and Russia (+25.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Romania emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +122.8% from 2012-2021. By contrast, the Czech Republic (-6.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Lithuania (+22 p.p.), Poland (+14 p.p.), Russia (+7.1 p.p.) and Romania (+2.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of the Czech Republic (-33.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest sulphonamides supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 44% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Czech Republic ($X), with a 9.8% share of total exports. It was followed by Russia, with a 7.8% share.

In Poland, sulphonamides exports increased at an average annual rate of +11.8% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the Czech Republic (-4.7% per year) and Russia (+26.9% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, which is down by -2.5% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a mild slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 65%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Romania ($X per ton), while Lithuania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+1.5%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Sulphonamides Imports

Imports in Eastern Europe

In 2021, supplies from abroad of sulphonamides increased by 13% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after three years of decline. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 55%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, sulphonamides imports expanded remarkably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Russia (X tons) and Poland (X tons) represented roughly 59% of total imports in 2021. The Czech Republic (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with an 11% share, followed by Lithuania (7.9%), Ukraine (5.8%) and Romania (5.7%). Belarus (X tons) took a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Lithuania (with a CAGR of +102.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest sulphonamides importing markets in Eastern Europe were Russia ($X), Poland ($X) and Ukraine ($X), together accounting for 78% of total imports. These countries were followed by the Czech Republic, Romania, Belarus and Lithuania, which together accounted for a further 12%.

Lithuania, with a CAGR of +52.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -2.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a perceptible reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the import price increased by 18%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Lithuania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ukraine (+4.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
