The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 14% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, sweet biscuit exports rose notably to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 13%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

The biggest shipments were from Poland (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons) and Russia (X tons), together recording 75% of total export. It was distantly followed by Ukraine (X tons), comprising a 12% share of total exports. The following exporters - Romania (X tons), Hungary (X tons), Moldova (X tons) and Latvia (X tons) - each recorded an 8% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Romania (with a CAGR of +13.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest sweet biscuit supplying countries in Eastern Europe were Poland ($X), the Czech Republic ($X) and Russia ($X), together accounting for 76% of total exports. These countries were followed by Ukraine, Romania, Hungary, Latvia and Moldova, which together accounted for a further 17%.

Romania, with a CAGR of +14.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, surging by 8% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while Moldova ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Moldova (+2.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, overseas purchases of sweet biscuits increased by 1.6% to X tons, rising for the sixth year in a row after two years of decline. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 19%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
