The country with the largest volume of frozen sweet corn production was Hungary (X tons), comprising approx. 57% of total volume. Moreover, frozen sweet corn production in Hungary exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Poland (X tons), twofold. Latvia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total production with a 4.7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume in Hungary was relatively modest. The remaining producing countries recorded the following average annual rates of production growth: Poland (-0.1% per year) and Latvia (0.0% per year).

In 2021, overseas shipments of frozen sweet corn increased by 12% to X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Overall, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 25%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, frozen sweet corn exports soared to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 24%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Hungary was the largest exporting country with an export of about X tons, which recorded 59% of total exports. Poland (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Moldova (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 30% share of total exports. The following exporters - Ukraine (X tons), Slovakia (X tons), Belarus (X tons) and Bulgaria (X tons) - together made up 9.1% of total exports.

Exports from Hungary decreased at an average annual rate of -1.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Belarus (+26.5%), Moldova (+10.0%) and Poland (+9.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +26.5% from 2012-2021. Slovakia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Ukraine (-8.0%) and Bulgaria (-12.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Poland (+13 p.p.), Moldova (+3.5 p.p.) and Belarus (+1.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Ukraine, Bulgaria and Hungary saw its share reduced by -3.3%, -4.3% and -11.8% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Hungary ($X) remains the largest frozen sweet corn supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 62% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Poland ($X), with a 24% share of total exports. It was followed by Moldova, with a 4.2% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Hungary totaled -1.0%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Poland (+11.3% per year) and Moldova (+10.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, surging by 5.1% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 14% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per ton), while Bulgaria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, the amount of frozen sweet corn imported in Eastern Europe was estimated at X tons, with an increase of 7.2% on the previous year's figure. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 22%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, frozen sweet corn imports surged to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 17%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Russia was the largest importer of frozen sweet corn in Eastern Europe, with the volume of imports finishing at X tons, which was near 47% of total imports in 2021. Hungary (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 17% share, followed by the Czech Republic (9.9%), Bulgaria (5%) and Slovakia (4.5%). The following importers - Belarus (X tons) and Poland (X tons) - each resulted at an 8.5% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to frozen sweet corn imports into Russia stood at +2.8%. At the same time, Belarus (+64.3%), Hungary (+16.3%) and Slovakia (+8.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +64.3% from 2012-2021. The Czech Republic and Bulgaria experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Poland (-11.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Hungary and Belarus increased by +11 and +4.3 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported frozen sweet corn in Eastern Europe, comprising 37% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Hungary ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with a 15% share.

In Russia, frozen sweet corn imports expanded at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Hungary (+18.1% per year) and the Czech Republic (+3.3% per year).
