Moreover, preserved sweet corn production in Russia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Hungary (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Poland (X tons), with a 2.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume in Russia stood at +12.2%. The remaining producing countries recorded the following average annual rates of production growth: Hungary (-0.1% per year) and Poland (+4.2% per year).

Exports in Eastern Europe

In 2022, overseas shipments of sweet corn prepared or preserved decreased by -1.3% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 25% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, preserved sweet corn exports amounted to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 18%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

Hungary prevails in exports structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. 84% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Russia (X tons), committing a 9.8% share of total exports. Poland (X tons) and Moldova (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Hungary increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Russia (+10.9%) and Moldova (+2.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Russia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +10.9% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Poland (-1.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Russia increased by +5 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Hungary ($X) remains the largest preserved sweet corn supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 86% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Russia ($X), with a 7.8% share of total exports. It was followed by Poland, with a 3.1% share.

In Hungary, preserved sweet corn exports increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Russia (+7.3% per year) and Poland (+0.2% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 3.5% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the export price increased by 11%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Hungary ($X per ton) and Poland ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) and Moldova ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

In 2022, approx. X tons of sweet corn prepared or preserved were imported in Eastern Europe; increasing by 11% on 2021 figures. In general, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 13% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, preserved sweet corn imports rose markedly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Russia (X tons) and Poland (X tons) represented the major importers of sweet corn prepared or preserved in 2022, accounting for near 29% and 24% of total imports, respectively. Belarus (X tons) took an 8.8% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Romania (7.8%), the Czech Republic (6.3%), Ukraine (5.8%) and Hungary (5.5%).

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Hungary (with a CAGR of +12.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Poland ($X), Russia ($X) and Belarus ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 56% share of total imports. Romania, the Czech Republic, Ukraine and Hungary lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 28%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Hungary, with a CAGR of +12.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, approximately reflecting the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the import price increased by 14% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2013; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ukraine (+0.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
