Syringe Market Size in Eastern Europe

The East European syringe market rose slightly to $X in 2022, surging by 1.5% against the previous year. The total consumption indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, consumption decreased by -8.3% against 2020 indices. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, syringe production expanded modestly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production saw strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the production volume increased by 53%. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in Eastern Europe

In 2022, overseas shipments of syringes, with or without needles decreased by -5.1% to X units for the first time since 2017, thus ending a four-year rising trend. In general, exports, however, enjoyed a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 84% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X units in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, syringe exports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 111% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

In 2022, Hungary (X units) and Poland (X units) represented the key exporters of syringes, with or without needles in Eastern Europe, together making up 70% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Slovakia (X units), mixing up a 16% share of total exports. The following exporters - Russia (X units), the Czech Republic (X units) and Ukraine (X units) - together made up 10% of total exports.

In 2022, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per unit, picking up by 26% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +7.0%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the export price increased by 69%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per unit), while Slovakia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in Eastern Europe

Syringe imports totaled X units in 2022, picking up by 7.3% against the previous year. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X units in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, syringe imports fell to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +68.6% against 2017 indices. Slovakia (X units) held a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to syringe imports into Russia stood at +1.0%. At the same time, Hungary (+11.2%), Slovakia (+9.7%), Poland (+5.1%), Romania (+3.3%) and the Czech Republic (+2.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Hungary emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +11.2% from 2012-2022. While the share of Hungary (+4.6 p.p.), Poland (+3.4 p.p.) and Slovakia (+1.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Ukraine (-4.4 p.p.) and Russia (-6.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest syringe importing markets in Eastern Europe were Russia ($X), Hungary ($X) and Poland ($X), with a combined 73% share of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, Hungary, with a CAGR of +15.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per thousand units, declining by -13.6% against the previous year. Import price indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, syringe import price increased by +43.7% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the import price increased by 41% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per thousand units, and then dropped in the following year.
