Non-Chicken Table Egg Market Size in Eastern Europe

The East European non-chicken table egg market contracted to $X in 2021, with a decrease of -3% against the previous year. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. Over the period under review, the market attained the peak level at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Non-Chicken Table Egg Production in Eastern Europe

In value terms, non-chicken table egg production fell slightly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, showed a pronounced contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 10%. Over the period under review, production reached the peak level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Poland (X tons) remains the largest non-chicken table egg producing country in Eastern Europe, accounting for 61% of total volume. Moreover, non-chicken table egg production in Poland exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Russia (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Ukraine (X tons), with an 8.2% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume in Poland was relatively modest. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Russia (-2.5% per year) and Ukraine (-1.7% per year).

Exports in Eastern Europe

In 2021, shipments abroad of table eggs, excluding hen eggs was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a precipitous decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 13%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, non-chicken table egg exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a dramatic decrease. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Belarus represented the major exporter of table eggs, excluding hen eggs in Eastern Europe, with the volume of exports reaching X tons, which was approx. 44% of total exports in 2021. Russia (X tons) took a 16% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by the Czech Republic (14%), Poland (11%), Moldova (6.9%) and Ukraine (5.1%).

Exports from Belarus decreased at an average annual rate of -10.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, the Czech Republic (+36.2%) and Ukraine (+11.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Czech Republic emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +36.2% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Russia (-5.1%), Moldova (-10.4%) and Poland (-41.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Belarus, the Czech Republic, Russia, Moldova and Ukraine increased by +37, +14, +14, +6.9 and +5 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Belarus ($X) emerged as the largest non-chicken table egg supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 43% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Poland ($X), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with a 15% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Belarus stood at -6.9%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Poland (-38.9% per year) and the Czech Republic (+37.2% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, jumping by 18% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the export price increased by 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while Ukraine ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+5.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Eastern Europe

In 2021, overseas purchases of table eggs, excluding hen eggs decreased by -69.1% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports showed a abrupt decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 33%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, non-chicken table egg imports declined markedly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports showed a deep downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 35%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Russia represented the key importing country with an import of about X tons, which finished at 47% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Romania (X tons) and Hungary (X tons), together comprising a 46% share of total imports. The following importers - Lithuania (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) - each recorded a 5.3% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Lithuania (with a CAGR of +11.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

In value terms, the largest non-chicken table egg importing markets in Eastern Europe were Russia ($X), Romania ($X) and Hungary ($X), with a combined 86% share of total imports.

Romania, with a CAGR of +10.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 46% against the previous year. Import price indicated a modest increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, non-chicken table egg import price increased by +68.8% against 2019 indices. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Lithuania ($X per ton), while Hungary ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
