Over the period under review, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by 11%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, table linen exports dropped to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a slight reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 28% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Poland was the main exporting country with an export of around X tons, which recorded 48% of total exports. Belarus (X tons) took a 10% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Hungary (9.6%), the Czech Republic (8.4%), Slovakia (6.4%), Russia (6.3%) and Lithuania (5.3%). Bulgaria (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Poland increased at an average annual rate of +8.3% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Hungary (+12.0%) and Russia (+5.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Hungary emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +12.0% from 2012-2022. Lithuania experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, the Czech Republic (-1.9%), Belarus (-4.4%), Slovakia (-5.6%) and Bulgaria (-9.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Poland (+26 p.p.), Hungary (+6.5 p.p.) and Russia (+2.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of the Czech Republic (-1.9 p.p.), Bulgaria (-3.4 p.p.), Slovakia (-5.1 p.p.) and Belarus (-6.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest table linen supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 41% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Lithuania ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with a 13% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Poland amounted to +7.9%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Lithuania (+3.8% per year) and the Czech Republic (+0.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, declining by -4.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a mild setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 23%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Lithuania ($X per ton), while Hungary ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, table linen imports in Eastern Europe contracted to X tons, falling by -6.2% compared with 2021 figures. Overall, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 22% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, table linen imports shrank to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +79.3% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 28%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then reduced slightly in the following year.

Poland was the major importer of table linen, knitted or crocheted in Eastern Europe, with the volume of imports resulting at X tons, which was near 44% of total imports in 2022. Russia (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Romania (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons) and Hungary (X tons). All these countries together held near 38% share of total imports. The following importers - Ukraine (X tons) and Bulgaria (X tons) - each reached a 7.9% share of total imports.

Imports into Poland increased at an average annual rate of +11.0% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Hungary (+16.0%), Bulgaria (+9.1%), Romania (+2.2%) and the Czech Republic (+1.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Hungary emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +16.0% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Ukraine (-6.7%) and Russia (-10.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Poland, Hungary and Bulgaria increased by +27, +5.9 and +2.1 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Poland ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported table linen, knitted or crocheted in Eastern Europe, comprising 49% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Czech Republic ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Russia, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Poland stood at +12.0%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Czech Republic (+5.2% per year) and Russia (-8.6% per year).

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the import price increased by 24%. There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Ukraine ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
