In 2022, Poland (X tons) was the largest exporter of table linen of cotton, generating 48% of total exports. All these countries together took near 41% share of total exports. Hungary (X tons) and Romania (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to cotton table linen exports from Poland stood at +8.0%. At the same time, Hungary (+8.1%) and Russia (+7.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Hungary emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +8.1% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Romania (-4.6%), the Czech Republic (-4.8%), Belarus (-6.1%) and Slovakia (-11.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Poland (+32 p.p.), Russia (+4.4 p.p.) and Hungary (+2.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of the Czech Republic (-2.3 p.p.), Belarus (-5.6 p.p.) and Slovakia (-6.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest cotton table linen supplying countries in Eastern Europe were Poland ($X), the Czech Republic ($X) and Belarus ($X), together accounting for 74% of total exports.

Poland, with a CAGR of +5.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -7.7% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a noticeable reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 7.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Hungary ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Romania (+2.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Eastern Europe

In 2022, overseas purchases of table linen of cotton increased by 2.8% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 18%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, cotton table linen imports expanded to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Poland (with a CAGR of +9.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Poland ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported table linen of cotton in Eastern Europe, comprising 39% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Czech Republic ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Russia, with a 16% share.

In Poland, cotton table linen imports increased at an average annual rate of +10.6% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the Czech Republic (+4.0% per year) and Russia (-7.5% per year).
