In 2021, the East European tamping machinery market increased by 34% to $X for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, consumption reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, tamping machinery production skyrocketed to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, faced a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the production volume increased by 149% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production attained the peak level at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, overseas shipments of tamping or compacting machinery were finally on the rise to reach X units for the first time since 2015, thus ending a five-year declining trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 128%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, tamping machinery exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, showed a abrupt decline. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

The Czech Republic was the largest exporting country with an export of around X units, which reached 73% of total exports. Poland (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with an 11% share, followed by Russia (5.8%). The following exporters - Slovakia (X units), Lithuania (X units) and Estonia (X units) - together made up 5.7% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to tamping machinery exports from the Czech Republic stood at -5.5%. At the same time, Slovakia (+12.3%), Lithuania (+8.8%) and Poland (+5.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Slovakia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +12.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Estonia (-1.7%) and Russia (-4.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of the Czech Republic, Poland and Slovakia increased by +13, +7.8 and +2.1 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the Czech Republic ($X) remains the largest tamping machinery supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 42% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Poland ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by Russia, with a 7.8% share.

In the Czech Republic, tamping machinery exports plunged by an average annual rate of -9.6% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (+1.1% per year) and Russia (-8.2% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per unit, rising by 64% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a noticeable setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 83% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Lithuania ($X per unit), while Slovakia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (-4.0%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Eastern Europe

In 2021, purchases abroad of tamping or compacting machinery increased by 7.1% to X units, rising for the fifth year in a row after two years of decline. In general, imports continue to indicate strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 110% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, tamping machinery imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports saw a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 60%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

Russia (X units) and Poland (X units) represented roughly 66% of total imports in 2021. The Czech Republic (X units) took the next position in the ranking, distantly followed by Hungary (X units). All these countries together took near 19% share of total imports. The following importers - Slovakia (X units), Ukraine (X units) and Romania (X units) - together made up 9.1% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Ukraine (with a CAGR of +55.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Poland ($X), Russia ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 75% of total imports. These countries were followed by Romania, Hungary, Slovakia and Ukraine, which together accounted for a further 14%.

Ukraine, with a CAGR of +35.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per unit, surging by 30% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the import price increased by 36%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Romania ($X per unit), while Ukraine ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Romania (+1.4%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
