After two years of growth, the East European taro (cocoyam) market decreased by -26% to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate a significant increase. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2021, and then fell significantly in the following year.

In 2022, overseas shipments of taro increased by 42% to X tons, rising for the fourth consecutive year after three years of decline. Over the period under review, exports posted significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 3,509% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, taro (cocoyam) exports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, exports showed a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 6,388% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the (cocoyam) exports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In 2022, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 29% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a mild increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the export price increased by 269% against the previous year. For the fourth consecutive year, Eastern Europe recorded growth in purchases abroad of taro, which increased by 0.4% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 249%. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, taro (cocoyam) imports reduced to $X in 2022. Overall, imports posted significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 235% against the previous year.
