The volume of export peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, telecommunications instrument exports rose to $X in 2021. In general, exports showed a perceptible downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 43%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

The Czech Republic was the major exporter of telecommunications instruments in Eastern Europe, with the volume of exports resulting at X units, which was near 39% of total exports in 2021. Slovakia (X units) held a 14% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Ukraine (9.4%), Hungary (8.8%), Poland (8.8%), Estonia (6.9%) and Romania (6.8%).

Exports from the Czech Republic increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Slovakia (+102.1%), Ukraine (+13.9%) and Estonia (+9.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Slovakia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +102.1% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Poland (-1.0%), Romania (-14.1%) and Hungary (-27.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The Czech Republic (+28 p.p.), Slovakia (+14 p.p.), Ukraine (+8.2 p.p.), Estonia (+5.6 p.p.) and Poland (+4.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Romania and Hungary saw its share reduced by -4.7% and -58.6% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, the Czech Republic ($X) emerged as the largest telecommunications instrument supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 28% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Hungary ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by Slovakia, with a 13% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in the Czech Republic amounted to +4.9%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Hungary (-20.3% per year) and Slovakia (+75.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per unit, growing by 6.6% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.5%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 41%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per unit), while Romania ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+14.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Eastern Europe

In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in supplies from abroad of telecommunications instruments, when their volume increased by 8% to X units. Total imports indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 90% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, telecommunications instrument imports dropped modestly to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -6.3% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 56% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Russia (X units), distantly followed by Poland (X units), Latvia (X units), Romania (X units), Hungary (X units) and the Czech Republic (X units) represented the largest importers of telecommunications instruments, together constituting 88% of total imports. Ukraine (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Latvia (with a CAGR of +29.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Russia ($X), Poland ($X) and Hungary ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 73% share of total imports. These countries were followed by the Czech Republic, Romania, Ukraine and Latvia, which together accounted for a further 19%.

Ukraine, with a CAGR of +20.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per unit in 2021, waning by -10.2% against the previous year. Import price indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the import price increased by 45% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2020, and then declined in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per unit), while Latvia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
