The East European concrete tile market declined to $X in 2022, dropping by -6.9% against the previous year. In general, consumption showed a slight slump. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, the amount of tiles, flagstones, bricks and similar articles, of cement, concrete or artificial stone exported in Eastern Europe reached X tons, growing by 11% compared with 2021 figures. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 18% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, concrete tile exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +95.8% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 30% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Belarus represented the main exporting country with an export of around X tons, which accounted for 57% of total exports. Poland (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with an 11% share, followed by the Czech Republic (7.3%), Hungary (6.1%) and Slovakia (5%). The following exporters - Estonia (X tons) and Russia (X tons) - each accounted for a 7.7% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to concrete tile exports from Belarus stood at +4.6%. At the same time, Russia (+20.7%), Poland (+7.8%), Estonia (+7.7%), Slovakia (+5.2%) and the Czech Republic (+2.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Russia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +20.7% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Hungary (-4.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Belarus, Poland and Russia increased by +5.9, +3.6 and +2.8 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest concrete tile supplying countries in Eastern Europe were Belarus ($X), the Czech Republic ($X) and Poland ($X), with a combined 72% share of total exports. Estonia, Hungary, Slovakia and Russia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 21%.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Estonia, with a CAGR of +15.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 11% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.5%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Estonia (+6.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, concrete tile imports in Eastern Europe shrank dramatically to X tons, waning by -29.4% against the year before. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 31%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then declined significantly in the following year.

In value terms, concrete tile imports fell markedly to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated mild growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +46.7% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 39% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then declined notably in the following year.

Imports by Country

Russia was the major importer of tiles, flagstones, bricks and similar articles, of cement, concrete or artificial stone in Eastern Europe, with the volume of imports recording X tons, which was near 35% of total imports in 2022. Slovakia (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 12% share, followed by Lithuania (11%), the Czech Republic (11%), Romania (5.5%), Poland (5.3%) and Hungary (5.1%).

Imports into Russia decreased at an average annual rate of -4.1% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Hungary (+16.3%), Romania (+12.2%), Lithuania (+8.4%), Poland (+8.3%) and the Czech Republic (+3.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Hungary emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +16.3% from 2012-2022. Slovakia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Lithuania (+6.1 p.p.), Hungary (+3.9 p.p.), Romania (+3.7 p.p.), the Czech Republic (+3 p.p.) and Poland (+2.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Russia saw its share reduced by -20.8% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest concrete tile importing markets in Eastern Europe were Russia ($X), the Czech Republic ($X) and Slovakia ($X), with a combined 49% share of total imports. Poland, Lithuania, Romania and Hungary lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 30%.

Hungary, with a CAGR of +13.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 14% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.2%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the import price increased by 14%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+2.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
