Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, toilet and kitchen linen exports rose sharply to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +66.8% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 26% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, Poland (X units) was the main exporter of toilet and kitchen linen, generating 33% of total exports. Hungary (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 15% share, followed by Belarus (13%), the Czech Republic (13%), Bulgaria (12%), Slovakia (5.7%) and Russia (4.6%).

Exports from Poland increased at an average annual rate of +15.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Belarus (+33.2%), Russia (+16.8%), Hungary (+8.0%), Slovakia (+4.6%), the Czech Republic (+4.3%) and Bulgaria (+3.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +33.2% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Poland, Belarus and Russia increased by +13, +11 and +2.2 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Poland ($X), the Czech Republic ($X) and Hungary ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together accounting for 69% of total exports. Bulgaria, Belarus, Slovakia and Russia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 27%.

Among the main exporting countries, Belarus, with a CAGR of +23.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per unit in 2021, jumping by 26% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a slight decrease. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per unit), while Belarus ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+3.7%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Eastern Europe

Toilet and kitchen linen imports expanded rapidly to X units in 2021, growing by 13% against the previous year. Total imports indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +82.3% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 21%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Russia (X units) and Poland (X units) represented roughly 49% of total imports in 2021. Romania (X units) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 14% share, followed by Ukraine (11%), Belarus (7.4%), the Czech Republic (5.4%) and Hungary (4.7%). Bulgaria (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Belarus (with a CAGR of +36.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Poland ($X), Russia ($X) and Romania ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 60% of total imports. These countries were followed by the Czech Republic, Ukraine, Belarus, Hungary and Bulgaria, which together accounted for a further 31%.

Belarus, with a CAGR of +27.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per unit, rising by 4.2% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 8.9%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per unit), while Romania ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Romania (+3.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
