In 2021, overseas shipments of track suits, ski suits and swimwear were finally on the rise to reach X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Total exports indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -11.3% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 25%. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, sportswear exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Poland represented the main exporter of track suits, ski suits and swimwear in Eastern Europe, with the volume of exports finishing at X units, which was approx. 39% of total exports in 2021. Bulgaria (X units) held a 21% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Slovakia (10%), the Czech Republic (8.7%), Hungary (7.8%) and Russia (4.6%). Ukraine (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Russia (with a CAGR of +17.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest sportswear supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 51% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Bulgaria ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with a 9% share.
In Poland, sportswear exports increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Bulgaria (+5.0% per year) and the Czech Republic (+1.8% per year).

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per unit in 2021, rising by 11% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per unit), while Hungary ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+4.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Sportswear imports expanded significantly to X units in 2021, with an increase of 14% against the year before. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 23%. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, sportswear imports surged to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
Poland (X units) and Russia (X units) represented roughly 50% of total imports in 2021. Hungary (X units) held a 10% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Slovakia (8.4%), the Czech Republic (8.3%), Romania (6.4%), Ukraine (6.2%) and Bulgaria (6.1%).
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Hungary (with a CAGR of +13.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest sportswear importing markets in Eastern Europe were Poland ($X), Russia ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X), together accounting for 65% of total imports. Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria, Slovakia and Ukraine lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 28%.
Among the main importing countries, Romania, with a CAGR of +11.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per unit in 2021, increasing by 9.2% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.5%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per unit), while Slovakia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
