The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by +0.5% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 27%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

Russia was the largest importer of transmission apparatus incorporating reception apparatus in Eastern Europe, with the volume of imports recording X tons, which was approx. 42% of total imports in 2021. The Czech Republic (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 15% share, followed by Poland (13%), Slovakia (8.8%) and Ukraine (6.6%). The following importers - Romania (X tons) and Hungary (X tons) - each finished at a 7.7% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to transmission apparatus imports into Russia stood at +2.3%. At the same time, the Czech Republic (+9.2%), Poland (+3.7%), Ukraine (+2.2%) and Romania (+1.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Czech Republic emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +9.2% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Slovakia (-3.8%) and Hungary (-11.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of the Czech Republic, Russia and Poland increased by +7.3, +3.2 and +2.3 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X), the Czech Republic ($X) and Slovakia ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 67% share of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, the Czech Republic, with a CAGR of +13.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 2.8% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a notable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the import price increased by 156%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Slovakia ($X per ton), while Ukraine ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
