The biggest shipments were from the Czech Republic (X tons), Russia (X tons) and Poland (X tons), together accounting for 71% of total export. Latvia (X tons) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Slovakia (X tons). All these countries together took near 17% share of total exports. Bulgaria (X tons), Lithuania (X tons) and Romania (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.

In value terms, the largest preserved tuna supplying countries in Eastern Europe were the Czech Republic ($X), Poland ($X) and Latvia ($X), with a combined 73% share of total exports. Slovakia, Russia, Bulgaria, Lithuania and Romania lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 24%.

Romania, with a CAGR of +68.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, dropping by -4.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the export price increased by 16% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2020, and then contracted modestly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Latvia ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Total imports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +109.9% against 2012 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 32%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2020, and then declined slightly in the following year.

In value terms, preserved tuna imports rose markedly to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +9.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +79.6% against 2015 indices. In 2021, Poland (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Romania (X tons) and Russia (X tons) was the key importer of tuna (prepared or preserved) in Eastern Europe, constituting 70% of total import. Ukraine (X tons) took a 7.4% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Hungary (7.3%) and Slovakia (6.2%).

In 2021, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 11% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the import price increased by 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
