Tuner Block Market Size in Eastern Europe

For the third consecutive year, the East European tuner block market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 2.2% to $X in 2021. In general, consumption, however, continues to indicate a mild descent. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, tuner block production declined significantly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production showed a abrupt decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 357%. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports in Eastern Europe

In 2021, overseas shipments of tuner blocks increased by 5.4% to X units, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 55%. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.

In value terms, tuner block exports expanded modestly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, saw a abrupt shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Hungary (X units) and the Czech Republic (X units) represented the main exporters of tuner blocks in 2021, finishing at approx. 44% and 30% of total exports, respectively. It was distantly followed by Poland (X units), constituting an 18% share of total exports. Ukraine (X units) and Slovakia (X units) took a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Hungary (with a CAGR of +10.9%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

In value terms, the largest tuner block supplying countries in Eastern Europe were Poland ($X), the Czech Republic ($X) and Hungary ($X), together accounting for 88% of total exports. These countries were followed by Slovakia and Ukraine, which together accounted for a further 7.5%.

Slovakia, with a CAGR of +6.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per unit, waning by -2.5% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a deep downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the export price increased by 2.3%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2021, the the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Slovakia ($X per unit), while Hungary ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Slovakia (+25.6%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Eastern Europe

Tuner block imports reached X units in 2021, surging by 9.8% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 29% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, tuner block imports soared to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +79.7% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 22%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Russia represented the major importer of tuner blocks in Eastern Europe, with the volume of imports amounting to X units, which was approx. 55% of total imports in 2021. Poland (X units) took the second position in the ranking, followed by the Czech Republic (X units) and Slovakia (X units). All these countries together took approx. 36% share of total imports. Hungary (X units) and Romania (X units) held a relatively small share of total imports.

Russia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the tuner blocks imports, with a CAGR of +4.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Slovakia (+2.6%) and Poland (+1.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, the Czech Republic (-3.7%), Romania (-8.5%) and Hungary (-12.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Russia (+16 p.p.), Poland (+1.9 p.p.) and Slovakia (+1.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Romania (-2.4 p.p.), the Czech Republic (-4.6 p.p.) and Hungary (-8.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

Slovakia, with a CAGR of +30.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per unit in 2021, picking up by 6.2% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.8%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the import price increased by 61% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Slovakia ($X per unit), while Russia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Slovakia (+27.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
