In 2021, the East European vapour generating boiler market decreased by -11.1% to $X for the first time since 2016, thus ending a four-year rising trend. In 2021, overseas shipments of vapour generating boilers decreased by -24.7% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, exports, however, posted a mild increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 49% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2020, and then contracted significantly in the following year.

In value terms, vapour generating boiler exports expanded sharply to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, posted a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 155%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Russia was the key exporter of vapour generating boilers in Eastern Europe, with the volume of exports recording X tons, which was near 60% of total exports in 2021. Bulgaria (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 12% share, followed by Poland (11%). The following exporters - Hungary (X tons), Latvia (X tons), Romania (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) - each reached a 12% share of total exports.

Exports from Russia increased at an average annual rate of +17.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Hungary (+24.0%), Bulgaria (+10.3%) and Latvia (+6.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Hungary emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +24.0% from 2012-2021. By contrast, the Czech Republic (-6.3%), Poland (-9.5%) and Romania (-20.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Russia (+44 p.p.), Bulgaria (+6.6 p.p.) and Hungary (+2.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the Czech Republic, Poland and Romania saw its share reduced by -2.6%, -20.5% and -23.5% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest vapour generating boiler supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 84% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Bulgaria ($X), with a 6.3% share of total exports. It was followed by Poland, with a 2.9% share.

In Russia, vapour generating boiler exports expanded at an average annual rate of +36.7% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Bulgaria (+27.5% per year) and Poland (-8.9% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, surging by 46% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 123%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, purchases abroad of vapour generating boilers decreased by -15.2% to X tons, falling for the third year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, imports showed a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 51% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, vapour generating boiler imports contracted to $X in 2021. In general, imports saw a deep downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 45%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Russia (X tons) was the main importer of vapour generating boilers, generating 37% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Poland (X tons), Romania (X tons), Slovakia (X tons), Ukraine (X tons), Hungary (X tons) and Belarus (X tons), together making up a 53% share of total imports. The Czech Republic (X tons) took a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to vapour generating boiler imports into Russia stood at -8.4%. At the same time, Slovakia (+40.0%), Hungary (+12.2%) and Poland (+2.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Slovakia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +40.0% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Romania (-1.1%), the Czech Republic (-3.1%), Ukraine (-6.7%) and Belarus (-16.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Poland (+8.1 p.p.), Slovakia (+8 p.p.), Romania (+4.3 p.p.) and Hungary (+4.1 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Belarus (-9.7 p.p.) and Russia (-12.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X), Poland ($X) and Romania ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 59% share of total imports. Slovakia, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Ukraine and Belarus lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 32%.

Among the main importing countries, Slovakia, with a CAGR of +33.8%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 4% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a mild decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 6.8%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
